Day 2 of the NNE

It's Day 2 of the post-presidential crisis speech on January 8, 2019.

One group of people, often overlooked in a situation like the government being shut down, are brewers of craft beer.

Now one might assume that the appropriate response to a crisis - real or imagined - is to calm one's nerves with your brew of choice. However, a May 2018 article from Fortune indicates that Americans are moving away from beer consumption. Over a ten year period - from 2006 to 2016 - the sale of craft beer has fallen from 65% to 43%. Even big name brewers buying the smaller breweries couldn't help much. People are either moving to more cocktail focused drinks or simply putting their alcohol behind them and moving on.

I would argue, then, that this government shutdown is a blessing in disguise. If people are no longer drinking beer, why not move into the more lucrative area of manufacturing your own hooch? Moonshine is still around and I'm sure  you can set up a distillery in the forests Appalachia with little to no overhead. The other benefit is that you don't have to spend money on getting any kind of license from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. Overall, a winning solution.
