Day 2 of the NNE

It's Day 2 of the post-presidential crisis speech on January 8, 2019.

One group of people, often overlooked in a situation like the government being shut down, are brewers of craft beer.

Now one might assume that the appropriate response to a crisis - real or imagined - is to calm one's nerves with your brew of choice. However, a May 2018 article from Fortune indicates that Americans are moving away from beer consumption. Over a ten year period - from 2006 to 2016 - the sale of craft beer has fallen from 65% to 43%. Even big name brewers buying the smaller breweries couldn't help much. People are either moving to more cocktail focused drinks or simply putting their alcohol behind them and moving on.

I would argue, then, that this government shutdown is a blessing in disguise. If people are no longer drinking beer, why not move into the more lucrative area of manufacturing your own hooch? Moonshine is still around and I'm sure  you can set up a distillery in the forests Appalachia with little to no overhead. The other benefit is that you don't have to spend money on getting any kind of license from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. Overall, a winning solution.

Day 1 of No National Emergency (NNE)

Last night, the president went on national television to tell us about the national emergency that exists due to the crisis at the southern border of the United States.

This morning marks the first day of the No National Emergency (NNE) period of our country. The national park service has shut down during the closure of the government. The wildlife are reverting back to their wilder days with no humans around to keep them tame. They may completely take over the park lands again before all is said and done.

When it's over, we may have to use the trash we've left behind as a barrier to keep wildlife in check in these once pristine parks.

Intro

Ever been to the mall and you look at one of their big maps and wherever the star is, that's where you are in the grand scheme of things? That's kinda what I have in mind for this blog. Just to show you where I am - where you may be - in the grand scheme of life. I'm going to start off with a bit of satire that my BFF and I came up with this morning. I was being a bit silly and she told me to run with it. I did, and 'You Are Here' is the result.

Enjoy the ride.
